I have a l984 Hunter 25.5 equipped with a Kendal mast. There are 3 lines threaded through the boom. One controls the topping lift and another in the outhaul line. The third is unattached and I have no clue as to its function. I also have a problem with binding on the main halyard when raising the main. The line runs easily until the main is about 3 feet from the masthead then it seems to jam up. Does anyone have any information about either of these problemws? I cna be contacted at dochapman@hotmail.com. Thanks for any help you can give in regard to resolving my puzzlement. D Chapman

I never heard of Kendal spars, they are likely Kenyon. The three lines in the boom are: 1) mailsail outhaul 2) topping lift 3) Main sail reefing line This is frequently set up through the lower reef point for "jiffy reefing". For your halyard jamming I suggest you find a spare line, tie it to the halyard and determine if the jam is in the halyard or only exsists when the sail is going up. Mine did that only with the sail and I had the local sailmaker adjust the bolt rope in the main sail. The rope tends to shrink with age faster than the dacron and sometime causes binding when going up.
