Legend 35 Racing
Bob,I have been campaigning a Legend 35 in our club series, as well as other Northern Chesapeake races for the past five years with amazing results. We love the boat and find that she performs extremely well in most conditions. We carry the 155 Genoa to well over 15 knots wind speed, which means that on the Northern Chesapeake you almost never have to change down. The 135 was used three times in three years and 110 has never been out it's bag in nearly five years. I find that the secret lies in enhancing your detuning (flattening) systems. I fitted a sixteen to one backstay tensioner, eight to one cunningham and four to one outhaul. With this combination I can increase, or decrease power in split seconds and it is paying off very well. We are winning most races we sail in and we are beating everyone across the line, including J30, J34, First 345S, Laser 28 and a C&C 110Express.The L35 rig is prone to excessive headstay sag, which affects your pointing ability. I am pleased with the way in which we have now reduced this tendency and we can now point as high as any of the boats in our fleet in any condition. Please feel free to e-mail me directly if you want photos of the systems.Good luck!Bill
