Hunter Passage 42 starter battery.

I know I should know this but what is the size of the starter battery for this boat. I have a battery in the box but it is too heavy for me to lift out. My paperwork on this is confusing. It is either a group 24 or a group 27. But the 27 is longer than the 24. I don't know which one I have but it is either the third or fourth battery, and that is why I am confused.

This is a 1997 P42. It was at the Annapolis boat show in October 1996 for those who were there like we were. I am all Lifeline AMG but I don't know what I have now. Help please. Thanks.

What engine do you have? what does the engine's manual recommend? For smaller Yanmar (ie: 4JH....) a group 27 or group 31 AGM starter battery would be fine. Group 24 would be on the small side for anything over 40 HP. Smaller batt = lower starter volts = more starter heat = less starter life.

You'll need to read the label or check the dimensions.

You'll need to know what fits in your tray or battery box... 2 boats are not guaranteed equal. Costco used to have good marine starting AGMs (dual posts).... Canada seems to be out, maybe they still have them in the US?

Our 1991 P42 takes a Group 24 starter battery. It resides in a covered plastic battery box secured to the upper shelf with a strap. Does your boat have a Genset?

The engine is the 60 HP turbo charge 4 cylinder Yanmar. I think it is a 4JH2-TE. I got a part number off the current battery and it comes back as a Group 24.

I think mine is a 24 also. I have the same installation you described. We have a 9kw Kohler generator.
