Hunter Passage 42 center cockpit 1995.....have owned the boat since it was new!
This one has probably been addressed many times but was not able to find the information....been a member for a long time but have not used this forum.

Windows starting to leak this season; how to fix?
Caulk outside or inside or both, take windows out and completely redo seal/gasket?
Possibly suggest a temporary fix until sailing season is over and the leaking problem methodically fixed???

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated......

The sealant around the windows can't flex once it ages causing cracks around the windows. It might be something on which the band aid approach might work but once water enters the surrounding core, bad things can happen so it might be wise to take them out and properly rebed them. The only difficult part of that project is to ensure all the old bedding is removed before re-installation.

the only solution is to redo them. Dow 795 and a couple of nice weather days. I did my 1991, one side at a time and had some cardboard/plywood plugs prefabbed just in case. My large forward salon windows were just fine, so I left them for another time.

Caulk may last a few weeks, but DON'T use silicone based, it will cause issues when you try to clean it out when you remove the old stuff.

It took me a casual day, to do each side. Especially after the first one. I used some dive weights to keep things in place until the DOW set up.

Make sure your DOW has not expired, it is date stamped. I got a MUCH better price from a commercial glazier and they had colors beyond the black and white, if you want to go that route.

Best of luck, get some old clothes, some drop cloths, and painters tape and you should be good to go. I used the piano wire trick for the stuck parts, they make a cutter (windshield removal), but I found scraper did fine.

Try emailing Eddie Breeden at Hunter for help and maybe he can have one of the guys from the factory help you with what to use and how.

How is the best way to get the old 795 off the window before rebeding?

Removing the windows

How did you folks remove those large side windows? They have a large lip, and whenever I try to get behind it to break the seal I have chipped a small edge of the plexiglass. This has kept me from continuing with the task.

I've heard about the piano wire trick, but how did you get it started?

Thanks,
Paul

"Capt Tolley's creeping crack cure" has worked for us in the past as a temporary fix until the off season and a total re-bed was more practical... seemed to work pretty well.

I'm sure some of the big wigs around will pooh pooh on it, but it worked for me, and was fast and more importantly easy to do, and kept us out on the water.
