Good day, I would like peoples opinion on the two boats mentionned above. Sailing characteristic comparaison. Comfort. Trailorability. etc. Basically comparing boat boats. I have been thinking for a little while in getting a little boat to cruise around. ...That would be lake Ontario, but also the Muskoka's lakes and (inspired by a certain Brian & Stef) getting it down to Floria and sailing to the Bahamas etc. The Hunter is interesting because of all the experience/information/modifications that can be found about it. The O'day is interesting as it is comarable to the Hunter (I think) but has a swingning Keel that reduce the draft dratically both for shallow area and for trailoring/launching. Thank you all, a.

Hunter 29.5 Toms River
The hunter 25.5

can be had in shoal or fin, inboard diesel or outboard gas. I'd take one as an "up" to my hunter 23!

Have you been inside an Oday 25?

The Oday 25 offers headroom without the need for a pop top. I would venture to say that any modification you can do to a Hunter, can be just as easily done on an Oday. IMO,the Oday's stand up better to weather...

From our side

We bought our 25 Oday four years ago . Not once have we thought that we should have bought something else. While Greg may well be corect in saying the pointing ability and speed maybe better on a Hunter ,I think the differance may not be much. Our Oday is heavy once it is on the trailer .Pretty close to 6000 pounds ,once you add the trailer, outboard and all the other stuff you just have to have. Launching retreival and mast stepping are easily done by one person. I agree that any modification to can be done to almost any boat. I think you need to ask yourself ,are these trips south a realistic idea or perhaps a romantic wish? Do you have a truck ,the cash for gas and the vacation time ? Keep in mind that the keel on the Oday is 1800 pounds . The retractable centerboard is only about 80 pounds. Some other boats use a weighted keel . you may also want to consider a Catalina 25 and some of the S2's.We looked at some of the S2's and really thought they were well laid out.

Oday 25 pittsburgh
I have owned two O'Day 25 cb's.

I don't think that makes them better than the Hunter. I would suggest that you sail and spend some time on both of the boats and then decide which you like. Sailing should not be a social pressure thing. If it is, you are not sailing for pleasure. It is what works for you. Best to you in your search, r.w.landau
