Hello All,
Does anyone know how the electrical wires and cables are routed inside the Hunter masts (1993 Legend 40.5)? If there is a conduit inside, how is it attached to inside of the mast?

I was trying to fish some new radar cables down my mast (with the mast up) and could only get them to run about 6 to 8 inches into the hole in the mast at the radome location. I am guessing that there is a PVC conduit in the mast that the electrical wires are running in. I am going to drop the mast to gain better access to see how the run the new cables and would like to know what I am in for before I start.

Thanks
Frank

Which make of mast do you have? If it is a Z-Spar then you may have TWO conduits, one at the front for the steaming light which only goes to the height of the light and a second for the masthead lights which goes right to the top.
Mine are PVC tubes with a lengthwise split which has been slid over a little 'T' section protruding from the inner wall of the mast.
Possible positions for the masthead conduit are either side of the luff groove and approx 2" round from the front of the mast for the steaming light.
If you can locate one of these there is a chance to get a new wire in using an electricians fish tape.
I would not recommend attempting to drill into the side of an existing duct if it still had wires in it. (As suggested in the other posting).

BTW I found Z Spars most helpful people.

Legend 40 ('86) mast wiring

Have recently re-wired our un-stepped deck mounted mast and found internal conduits running to mast top and to steaming/deck light positions. There was no way to pull wiring past mast base as wire connectors were there, plus wiring was knotted/sealed to prevent leakage down the compession post, as well as preventing pulling beyond that point. Complete new wiring and coax was installed all the way through the compression post to bilge area for future access ease.
