Hunter Marine Trailer Weights

I recently purchased a Hunter H240 in Illinois. Apparently in Illinois, it is not required to have the trailer weight on the title. This poses a problem for us here in Michigan and I would assume other states as well. In Michigan, you need the trailer weight to purchase a license plate for your trailer. The plaque on the trailer only lists the Gross Vehicle Weight, not the empty weight.
I contacted Hunter and they told me that a company called Magictilt made the trailers for their boats.
The Hunter folks sent me this link to the Magictilt web site and on there was the data sheet I was looking for:

http://www.magictilt.com/galvanized/item/244-galvanized-sailboat-series

If you don't have this information for your trailer in Michigan, you need to take the boat off the trailer and have the trailer weighed at a certified scale. Then you need to bring the weigh slip to the Secretary of State office with your licensing information when you apply for the title.
Hope this helps.

Assuming you have the factory trailer from magic tilt for the 240 the following is the information taken from the magic tilt web site. Net capacity is 2890lbs and trailer weight is 530lbs.

I think the clerk could be looking at requirements pertaining to flat bed and other commercial trailers. Doesn't Michigan have a category for "homebuilt" trailers where the builder can himself attest to its origin and weight? To make you jump through hoops for a trailer that clearly weighs under 500lbs sounds like a third world country bureaucracy. We don't have that problem in Florida.

Caverun;
Can you take a photo of the Majic Tilt trailer info tag on the trailer that lists the gross weight. Does it read empty weight and list that?

Happy Camper;
Take a photo of the mfg. tag that also lists the vin/id number and let me see what is on there. Generally a lot of those tags are computer generated printing and over time it comes off. That may be the case but see if it lists empty weight and if so, that is the weight of the trailer.

Once I see the photo, a call to Magic Tilt in Florida in the St. Pete area is in order but you can forget that for the next two weeks due to the hurricane hitting Florida today even though they are on the west coast of Florida. They may generate one for your trailer if you explain the situation. Then at the same time, I would call your DMV at the state level enforcement division who would really know what you need and advise you as to the specific statuate and so forth.

First please take a photo of the tag on your trailer which is generally found on either side at the front of the trailer. I do find it odd but you may have talked with an inexperienced rep. from the DMV. I will then suggest what you should do.

Thanks Dave,
I appreciate the offer to help, however, the table of trailers listed was sufficient for the Secretary of State.
You are correct, the plate only lists the Gross Vehicle Weight, not the trailer weight.
The plate is still very readable (stamped metal), no problems there.
I am all set with my shiny new plate and spiffy new boat numbers.
Come on Spring!
I did have to do some talking to convince the Secretary of state that this was the data they were looking for however.
(Thank goodness for the internet and smart phones, I was able to walk them through the steps I used to get to this info.)
If there is a more official looking table with Magic-Tilt company info on it (maybe an official looking pdf or something), it would make the task easier for anyone else in my situation I guess.
Thanks again for the responses.
