Hunter Legend 45 CE Certification

Hi, I am considering buying a Hunter Legend 45 (1987) in Florida for export to UK. The yacht will need a CE Certification before it can be used in Europe. I have written to Hunter asking them for information about this model, but they replied with a one-liner "We have little info in the archives from the old company...Hunter Marine Corporation." (useful hu)?

Therefore, the wealth of information is right here - in this forum. So, has anyone any experience of obtaining a CE Certification for any boat built in US before 2005 and imported into Europe. Does anyone have, for example a copy of the original Hunter Legend 45 User's Manual (a mandatory requirement).

I hope this will build into an useful forum entry to assist me (and all others) as I step through this bureaucratic minefield.

Thanks
Captain Mac Budgie

That yacht pre-dates CE certification. In any case, Hunter would not have done it.

Happily IMCI will issue a certification to a craft owner for €1000. You have to contact them for particulars. It may cost more if the boat has to be measured.

Thanks for the link Jackdaw.

I have been told the problem will be the engine: 4JH-TE, which is not compliant. That means re-powering with a new (newer) engine. Other than that it's about documentation (and some new safety gear). I was quoted about £3000 ($5000) so will definitely being looking at your suggestion

Anyone know a good re-powering yard on Florida West Coast?

Jackdaw, I looked at http://www.imci.org/
It's very complicated process.

I have been in touch with HPI Verfication Services (UK). http://www.eucertification.com
They seem confident that with an engine swap, the boat will "Sail" through the CE Certification. They have a guy in Jacksonville who will do the survey.

This is looking like it might fly. Importing boats from the USA is more common than I thought (seems to coincide with a favourable $US / £UK rate)
