I really don't think that hull strength is an issue for most any boat. Unless your ramming one of those submerged containers I would bet that the hull would be more than strong enough. I would worry much more about being fully fitted out for ocean travel. Having said that, I would suggest something like a Baba or Crealock for ocean sailing.

In general, the hulls of the Cherubini Hunters are quite strong. Ours is. But there were variations in the quality of the lay-up during the production run. JC II, son of the designer who is preparing and h25 for off-shore racing reports that he strengthened the hull in some key spots by adding a layer of fiberglass mat and epoxy where he thought it was needed. Check the archives for specifics. I'd suggest trials in reasonable seas (4-6 footers) to see if and where the hull oil cans bouncing off a wave. Having a good look by a really competent surveyor may also reveal evidence of excessive flexing. In either case, the fix is simple, once you know where on the hull it is needed. Frankly, the hull would be the last of my worries if I were preparing for an off-shore cruise in our '77 h27. By the way, a number of this model have cruised off-shore, and the design is well suited for it. Preparations are the same as for any production boat - watertight integrity, rigging, systems, stowage, safety, and crew, crew, crew. David Lady Lillie
