Hunter Hull laid up

Hoping to find an ex Hunter employee that has first hand knowledge of how Hunter made their boat hulls. I’m familiar on how some lower end power boats were laid up, using a mold, applying gel coat, then layers of fiberglass chop or mat. Looking for the last years of Hunter production 2004-2009 boat sizes 36’-45’ long and how the hull was laid up, is the hulls solid fiberglass mat or does the hull have some kind of core added into the layers of fiberglas? From the areas I can see it looks to be solid fiberglass mat, but I can’t see to much of the lower half of the hull above the water line.

Contact the SBO Stores.
HunterOwners.com customer service

They had a service to talk to 2 retired Hunter Employees.
1) One did the Electrical on my boat
2) One was in charge of the Hull Lay up.

I had recent Hull Damage and now I have first hand knowledge , the hard way.

May I ask what problem you had, if you don’t want to say on the form you could private message me? Also I have use the two guys that worked for Hunter but had poor feedback and they never followed up, that’s why I came back to the form.

JamesG, what year is that on? Did it have moisture between the fiberglass and wood? If it did hav moisture did you find out where it was coming from? Sorry for so many questions.

My boat is 1998
The method of making the Hull Fiberglass, in its Mould, for our size boats, was used for the years of your query.
As @Crazy Dave Condon asked you...

What is your issue or problem?

Hull construction is different for various parts of the boat.

Help us help you. Pictures would be nice.

Jim...

PS: The retired consultants from Hunter took the Summer off.;)

Most all Hunter models were laid up with solid FRP below the waterline and cored above. Whether balsa was used as core above the waterline in all cases, I'll defer to Hunter.

You seem to be quite worried but, you seem to be evasive when people ask you what it's about. It helps people trying to help you if you respond with more specific information.

My thoughts on the chopper gun method; it's not used at all anymore Maybe I'm Wrong in thinking it was a 60s thing when boat Builders were transitioning from wood to fiberglass and didn't understand the Incredible strength laid up fiberglass has.

Kevlar was not used in the boats of the OP's inquiry.

But the bow is extra reinforced to take the waves.

My info tip...
No chopped blown in FRP either, All hand laid.

@DOCKHAND

Never heard back. If you can be more specific as to model and year, damage and/or concerns along with photos, you will get in depth responses. We all on this forum try to help each other. It does not matter who you are because you are a sailor too which is important
