Despite my frustrations with some aspects of Hunter ownership, I have been thoroughly impressed with Hunter's dedication to customer service.

They have always responded promptly to each and every inquiry I've made about any part of my 38, regardless of how petty my question may have appeared (in hindsight, some have been fairly petty).

Yesterday, on a Sunday, I notified them that I was missing the instruction sheet for the carbon monoxide detectors installed by the factory.

I expected to hear back from them sometime this week, but I was astonished to receive a reply, and a PDF copy of the instructions, later that day...on Super Bowl Sunday, no less.

With Hunter's customer service, you actually get to communicate with someone here in America, not someone who doesn't have a clue what you're asking, and they're in Mumbai.

They have sent me missing reference manuals, referred me to a specific contact at Lewmar for info about my windlass, offered to send me a replacement parts (no questions asked), and offered suggestions on ways to troubleshoot problems.

Not everyone will agree, and I have been critical of Hunter in another aspect of my ownership experience, but I believe Hunter may well offer the best customer service, with regard to technical support, that I've ever experienced.

Having an oldish Hunter, I never gave a thought to contacting Hunter about minor stuff like rubber bumpers for the cockpit lockers. I just assumed I'd have to find suitable replacements elsewhere. One call to Hunter and they identified the part number, had them in stock, and had them in my hands less than a week later. Bravo.

Yep, great people. I had one offer to travel (over a weekend) to my location, about 200 mi. away at the time, to help me replace the large fixed smoked lexan "windows" on the sides of my 35.5 cabin if I couldn't find anyone local to do it. I would have paid to put him up and gas, but THAT is service. Always have been helpful over the phone.

Just this morning sent Eddie Breeden an email asking what size the O-rings are for the two raw water strainers (engine and A C) on my boat.

Want to get a couple of spares.

Got an answer in less than an hour.

That's service.
