I found this closed old thread http://forums.sbo.sailboatowners.com/showthread.php?t=153850&referrerid=115463 and was wondering if anyone has a source for the shaft log pictured for the Hunter 30 and 33 Cherubini's. Also, can anyone tell me how Hunter mounted these?. Were they through bolted with washers and nuts or lag bolted?. The back side on my H30 is very uneven and not sure they used nuts. I made my own shaft log from a 1-1/4" bronze thru hull fitting but would rather use an original design.

Kito, I have not found a source for the shaft log. I plan on using a bronze thru hull also.

I needed to replace mine last spring. After searching far and wide for a stock replacement, I ended up having a new bronze shaft log machined to match the old one. It wasn't as costly I as thought it would be. It's through bolted - just two bolts though. I'm not sure there would have been enough room on the inside face of the hull for a typical through-hull flange.

Mark, let me know how you mount and seal yours. I drilled 4 holes in the flange and bedded it in 5200 and used bronze 3/4" long wood screws. The back side is too uneven for the large backing nut alone. Plus you need screws on the flange to resist any torque from the friction the shaft may have against the packing.
