I am curious to see how other 27 owners have maintained or refitted their cabins, added otions, cabinetry, changed upholstery etc. Over the last few months many owners have sent me images which I have incorporated into an album for everyone to reference and enjoy. Thank you for sending. I would enjoy having more images to add to this study, please include the year of mfg and send to Captjim @ Litenet.net Here's a link to the album study, it has really helped us out in planning our own refit and changes. Images are of cabin and engine compartment only. Thanks, Jim http://members8.clubphoto.com/capt515594/2943260/guest.phtml

One way.

When I need interior ideas I visit my friend's boats or ask questions here on HOW. While waiting for answers or the opportunity to travel I study pictures on Yacht World. See the Related Link for lots of pictures of the H27. But from your link it appears you already have the pictures.

Hi Ed...........

Ed, I looked at the link you attached to your reply, I had not seen it. The majority of the photos used were sent to me from owners I contacted on the Sailnet Hunter Discussion List. I had included one or two boats that I saw on the net to set up the venue. I'm not sure it is proper to use other people's images, so I won't use those from the link you sent unless you can advise that it would be OK to do so. I'm just not sure about that. If you know better, please let me know, it would be great to have the opportunity to include them. Thanks Ed, regards, Jim

Wow!

I think this has to be one of the best threads I've seen on this site. My first boat was an '82 h27, and I still have heart pangs about that boat (I owned it for 7 years, so you can understand how I might be a little attached to it...STILL after I traded it in 3 years ago). My boat was CLEAN (the upholstery was redone before I'd purchased her). I'd be happy to send along some pics, however, I always seem to have a problem uploading them here.

thanks Tim

thanks Tim, I'd enjoy having your images to post on the album study. You can send them direct to Captjim@Litenet.net, you do not have to send them through HOW. You can send them direct to me. I would appreciate receiving them and including them, thank you, Jim

Tim, when's the new boat due?

Getting excited about your new boat yet? I looked at it at the Chicago show, nice!! See ya soon at the marina! Brian

Hey Brian...it's due this Friday...

Sorry to plug in here, just a small caveat...My first boat was a Hunter 27 ...great boat! My second boat was a Hunter 29.5...another great boat. The one thing I really liked about the 27 was the masthead rig. On the 29.5, and the fractional b and r rig, although the jib was a piece of cake, the main was a BEAR. SOOOO to make a long story short, I am going back to the more traditional, "outdated" masthead rigged boat, and just purchased a Catalina 310. So Brian, to make a long story short...it delivers on Friday (and will probably come with the extra snow option). It was great to see you and Deb at Strictly Sail. See you soon.

quarterberth update

on my hunter 27 (1983) i updated all of the cushions with 5-6" thick foam and cloth... where the quarterberth is i constructed a "back" which would allow you to rest against it while at the chart table... there is no ridge or framing on the bottom so it is still very usable as a berth (although more usable in my opinion as storage) this is my second hunter 27 the first was new in 1979 a 1980 model this was 2 years ago...before i got the 37 cutter since its paid for i'll probably keep it for a different body of water take care all sailorhayes@hotmail.com

Sailorhayes

Sailorhayes, if you have any images of the salon and updates in your 27, I'd enjoy having them to share in the album. I received new images yesterday, and those have been uploaded. You can send direct to Captjim @ Litenet.net Thanks, Jim

Cherub. renovations

I am currently renovating the interior of a Cherub. 25 1976. I've taken down the ugly 1970ties basket weave rug on the walls and installed soft indoor/outdoor carpeting. I just ordered some custom teak cabinet doors from Thailand that were actually very cheap $64.00 and should look good against the cherub. teak. I found a new interior product made of PVC that imitates teak wood but doesn't dent or gray. I know purist may prefer real wood but I just visited a boat show in Boston and the new Hunters, Beneteaus etc. that were 200K and up had imitation teak inside. The product I have looks more authentic than the stuff in the 200K new boats. Anyone want info. to obtain this can email me. mark.crociati@montaukfinancial.com

Faux Teak?

Mark @ Montauk, I'd sure like to see and read more about the faux teak you mention in your reply. I have no aversion to it at all, after all the entire boat is plastic! <G> If you read this, perhaps you'd be generous enough to post a link or contact information here as a reply. That would be great! Thanks, Jim

Andy, I do not think it is structural, I use it as a grab handle when entering the cabin while heeling. (thats our '82 with the burgandy cushions and carpet) Chris

Plasteak

I think this may be just what the Dr. ordered. I've replaced the teak on my stern perch seats. You really have to look hard to tell the difference. But best of all--no more sanding and varnishing!!!

Thanks Jack, Mark......

Great link and resource, nothin wrong with a little Plasteak on a boat that's all plastic anyway! <G> Thanks!

Plasteak?

Hey? Do you think the vinyl teak & holly sole, or the vinyl decking would peel up in the corners like an old linoleum floor in a few years? LOL...hope not! I am interested in the Plasteak handrails, mine need to be replaced, and they look good, the price is excellent. With regard to the sole and the decking, I'm sure proper adhesive and proper installation,(as with a floor) would make all the difference. Nice products.........

Andy, Nav station post?

Andy, I wondered the same thing when I received and posted the 82 model images. The post looks too weak and inappropriate to be a compression post, maybe it is just a handhold? It sure would have been more attractive and 'yar" had it been a turned teak post! ( as we've seen on many larger boats)....... Good observation
