As I was getting my 2001 Hunter 290 ready for launching this year, I notice that the charge on my starter battery was dropping fairly quickly during the day, while my second bank was holding steady. Other than the bilge pump nothing else would be directly connected, and since I was still on the hard that should not be an issue although there was some rain water in the bilge. I disconnected the started and switched to bank 2. I was installing AIS and a Splitter and wanted to do some testing. When I turned on the DC breakers the little red lights can on but none of the instruments. Is this the way it is suppose to work, or is something miswired. Also I am the only owner as I bought the boat new.

If the panel light come on, the instruments should come on. Since it's all of them and you have not disconnected any, check you ground.

Do you have a hand held voltmeter? If so, you should be able to identify where you have/don't have power in the circuit.

If you don't have one, this reverts to a guessing game via internet.
