OK I have stayed silent for years. Most of these production boats have performance versions within the brand. I crewed on 38s5 (Fusee') which some of you racers may have encountered in the past. Fusee' crushed the fleet more often than I can remember. These "Benne" First 367,38s5 and many others are not the same as Beneteau Oceanis . Much like my Legend 40.5 compared to the newer Hunter of similar length but B/R rig and some with in mast furling as well. Not even the same boat. I am going to say with confidence that if there is another 20,000 pound racer/cruiser with a 108/104 PHRF that is interested in coming up to "windy lane" Santa Barbara Channel and convincing me and my crew that Hunters are inferior to Bennes,Jennys,Cats and all the other SIMILAR boats , bring it. Bring some extra winch handles Jackdaw lol because if its blowin' you might be supprised.

I’ve have a Jenneau. First sailboat. I’ve owner lots of power boats. Mostly Georgian Bay and the Trent Servern. It’s absolutely true your odds of surviving a rock hit in the bay with 12 brands of power boat are pretty good but if it is a Bayliner it’s unlikely. The chopper gun hull will just tear apart. That said the other 12 brands made lemons every single one.
Hunters have beautiful lines perfect glass finish.It appears as a business Marlow introduced too many new models in a soft market to survive. The boats are dolls.
I think a brand hate thing is just sensitive egos lashing out at other folks to justify their purchase. You don’t witness these hateful comments at clubs. There are folks who join threads with an insult to establish a pecking order Oh well.

A scuba student asked me if there are any brands of bad scuba gear. I said no their clients died off.
I see the same thing in Sailboats. I think they all do their best.

I am just responding to years of sitting back and listening to the chatter in yacht clubs all over the west coast. If you race, cruise or just day sail on weekends , you are bound to develop an opinion. Most of them I can barely listen to as I don't do well around braggers and know-it-alls'. Most of the sailors THAT SAIL, I feel get along great and are part of a unique group of passionate people with a lot in common. I am convinced that most production sailboats are far stronger and will withstand much more foul weather then most sailors. Now I am not talking about the southern ocean, roaring 40's or any really nasty stuff that even the finest yachts have struggled in. If we pay attention to our rigs integrity and the weather, then the odds of boats breaking in half should go way down right? Keep off the rocks and keep them from filling up with water lol. Now all of this rhetoric is coming from me who now sails in southern California and rarely do I wander up around the corner (Point Conception) . Not a very nasty place to sail but great racing and cruising year around, in my "Clorox bottle". Side note; I have been looking at buying a 2000ish Beneteau First 47.7 for years now and have not found the right one. It will take a really nice one for me to part with my Legend 40.5 as I have it dialed in. The right tool for the job I say and in So Cal the plastic production boats are great.
I have had my Hunter 240 for a year and a half. I had to pay a premium price compared to other 24 footers but it has great features. In fact the only negative I would give Hunter is in the area of actual assembly. It appears that they are careless about sealing the deck to the shear, especially at the transom (very bad when you have a sugar scoop stern). Everything else about the boat is perfect for us. She has a good bit of freeboard but goes to the windward very well. We are on a lake and we can easily get six or seven in the cockpit at once. I have put the mast up by myself and can pull her with my six cylinder Mountaineer. We are in a slip, on a large lake, 700 miles of shoreline, and most trips are two to four hours. The only major change I have made is a CDI roller furler for the jib.
