Good Grief!

That boat is horrific! I assume the new owner got her for salvage, because she sure looks like a total to me. The owner ought to check the tie rod ends too; I assume they are the same as others of the era with mild steel plates under the pan. Well, it's good to see it brought back if that's what happens. Great boats.

If I had to guess based on condition (and the blue cushion typical of bareboat charters), she was a charter boat that had a rough encounter with a sandbar somewhere and lost, spent a few days on her side before getting refloated, then a few more still with water in the hull before eventually getting sold for a song to someone willing to restore her....

I will document this as it goes forward. Beyond what I suspect, I have no info on the boat's past. I just see what I see.

A little update on work since Thursday. Chris and Zach have pulled up the old sole bits and taken down one head bulkhead that was rotted away at the base.

After some more pump out and clean up, we start laying the new sole tomorrow.

Can you say, Cost overruns? In October a little girl asked her mother for a baby brother for Christmas. Mamma said that there wasn't enough time to get her a baby brother by Christmas. Litlle girl replied that daddy says if you put enough men on the job you can meet any schedule.

Nah, two guys on the demo, two on the floors. Done by next Friday, on target and on schedule. Once the owner gets a look at a finished project (the sole), we get to start on the other items.

That is going to be one heck of a task to finish that one. She is in really rough shape. Does the owner have to put a new engine in her too? It looks like the only really good thing left is the fiberglass shell!

Charlie, You are demonstrating what experience can do in any business. For the first time rebuilder this looks like an overwhelming job but after you have done a few you know how to see the problem and ignore the rest. I had to rebuild some basement stairs a couple of weeks ago. Thirty years ago it would have been a major project this time it was a one man tearout and rebuild before lunch.
I am pleased to see the progress you have made since you started "O Joy".

So true
I love the look on my sons face when I explain a complicated job (to him) and then say "we should finish this today if all goes well" :D, and I walk into jobs that I did twenty five-thirty years ago and I remember how over whelmed I was then and now these big jobs are second nature and I make much more money
