Hunter 50 Impeller change

I am in the middle of changing the impeller on my Yanmar JH4-HTE. It is a very tough job, as the pump is rear facing and under the alternator/intercooler. I only need to put the cover back on with the 4, 10-32 hex head bolts. Any suggestions/tips will be greatly appreciated.

Taping the bolts into a socket on an extension with masking tape is often useful. The tape is weak enough that it tears away once the bolt snugs up.

On my 3GM30 with rear facing pump 2 bolts and 2 hose clamps to remove the whole pump, mine's impossible otherwise.

Someone made a modification using bracket from YM series to turn the GM cw pump around to have impeller facing forward. Ingenious idea. That'll solve the 2GM20F and 3GM30F problem. Doubt it'll help JH4 engine.

google Speed seal.' it is a beautifully machined replacement, specific for the wretched yan mar raw water pump covers with the teeny little screws that fall into the bilge. i had Speed seals on both of my yan mars after spending huge amounts of time trying to get the little screws to line up. . they fasten with 1/2 inch x 1/2 inch machined brass knurled thumbscrews you could fasten in the dark. well worth the $ .
