Hi
I have a year 2000 460 with a rudder bearing issue. The original bearings appear to be nylon and have swollen up making the rudder very tight. We have sailed from England to Spain and have laid up for the winter.
I know as a minimum I need to replace the bearings but as I still have a fibreglass rudder stock am therefore also considering replacing the whole rudder. The big issue is cost, not least that of delivery and taxes to Spain.
I believe that a lot of 460 owners have replaced their rudders (some due to breakages) with a new one including stainless shaft from Foss Foam.
In the experience of other owners with similar rudders is the replacement necessary or should I just go ahead with the less costly option of replacing the bearings
