We have a 2012 Hunter 45DS and on many ocassions the mainsail is difficult to unfurl. Any suggestions? We keep some back pressure on the sail when furling and there is no noticeable binding when unfurling it is difficult to unfurl.l

Use plain fresh water and spry the ball-bearing that is in the furler drum through 1/2" openings that are located under the furled line. You will have to unfurl first while you are at the doc. Salt water crystals accumulate in between the ball bearings and makes it hard to turn.

Use the out furling line to actually push the sale out then just tighten up with the outhaul line. Whenever I've just pulled our sail out with the Outhaul line it always jams.

I like to ease the tension on the vang and mainsheet when furling or unfurling the mainsail. I find if the boom is allowed to move up it will allow the tension to equalize on the foot and leach of the sail. Our sail comes out by hand using just the outhaul line.

The top and bottom bearings on the Selden furler are greased. They should be lubricated annually but i don't think most people do that.

I have an 09 45ds and the block at base of mast for the furling in line was slightly smaller than the line. That extra friction made a big difference. Now with a larger diameter block, I can furl the main in by hand
