I am seriously considering purchasing a 1991 Hunter 43 and would like to know (other than the general interior layout) what the main differences between the 43 and 430 are with respect to sailing. Are they indentical hulls? Do they sail differently. I realize that there are more 430's out there than 43's. Why did Hunter quit making the 43 in 1994 and continued with the 430 for many years. Is there anything generally wrong with the 430? Thank you for your comments.

We have a 95' 430 and have never sailed a..

43, but we love the 430. She is fast easy for myself and the Admiral (5'3" wife) to sail. We have had 2 problems. 1) shortly after we purchaed her last year, we discovered the aft holding tank was shot. They are aluminum and go to pot very quickly. If you purchase one remove the floorboard in front of the galley sink, and lift up the forward bunk and poke the tanks down low to see if they are solid. 2)The Grunett (sp?) fridge cycles continually after it cools down. Its been checked twice and all is ok. Our work around is to let it cool down and start to cycle and then turn it off. We then run it 45 min in the morning and evening and every thing stays cold in the fridge and frozen in the freezer. There are some photos of her in the photo forum archive called a fish out of water from when we had her hauled out. Hope this helps. Dick McKee S/V Constellation
