I have a 1997 Hunter 42, and am in the process of changing the anchor line and chain, I ahve noticed that the water does not completely drain from the anchor locker as the drain outlet is above the base of the locker, I have decided to put in a base made of slotted teak raised up a few inches to keep the line and chain dry. is there some reason that Hunter would have the drain raised up above the floor? Maybe there is a part that fits in there to keep the line out of the water?

No answer here. I removed all the rode from our locker a few years ago to clean the bottom of mud/sludge. The drain on our 1991 model is at the bottom. I suppose you could place a shim in order to keep the rode out of any undrained water.

Thanks Terry, I am sure its just sloppy work, will make it right.

Maybe pour some epoxy to bring it up to a bit short of drain level. Short, so things you drop in do not flow right out:) While you are in there, get maybe another OEM drain and install it on the opposite side a few inches higher than the first. If the first blocks up, the second one can drain water before it fills the locker and flows into the cabin. The goes for any boat.

Thanks Ron, got all the stuff ready, there actually is another drain higher up on the starboard side.

The scupper on the starboard side I believe is a vent for the forward water tank.

Here is what I did

Now, mind you I have a 49, which is,, well,, bigger.
Anyway, in our sail locker, there is a drain that comes from the anchor locker.
And then there is a valve & drain which allows it to drain to the boat's bilge.
This is what I technically call
"A terrible idea"
If you have this, you don't want this valve open. Instead, mount a small automatic impeller bilge pump (real small is fine) in the bottom of the locker.
On the port hull side at the very top drill through the hull and mount a 3/4" outlet.

Now the excess water pumps out of the hull, no issue

I think I have 2 drain holes one low and one high but I guess you don’t want to drill a lower drain hole, the locker does need to be clean every now and than and did have some crude block
the drain hole and so now I empty the locker and wash and flush with fresh water and also get back to the dock I rinse everything with fresh water.

I have a 1997 Hunter 42
Mine is 1998 H430.
I have two Locker drains.
With the lid shut, there is a drainage groove/ channel for Waves over the bow or rain fall.
This is the only drain that MUST be open.

The second which is the one that I believe you are worried about is for the rare event of open lid and waves over the bow.

If top drain is open, no need for the bottom full drain.
