We are looking at the 41 line or 41DS of the hunters. Sailing in upper Chesapeake. Any comments on years to avoid, issues with certain years vs other years or with the design differences, please advise. What years had better cabinetry and real wood vs fake? Better hardware, design options, If there are different engines ( only know of Yanmar) should we look for or watch our for something?Tell me what you love or hate or why we should or should not buy for use in the upper bay, with dreams of doing the ICW someday. If you know of one going up for sale, share the info.... Thanks.

Hunter 41 DS Port Huron
I don't know about the Chesapeake, but the wife and I picked up an 07 41 DS last September and sailed her home some 500 Nm's she handles beautifully and is very comfortable, we experienced storms, seas up to 15 ft and some great broad reach sailing with an asym for a couple of days bouncing off 11.5 kph. The Sapphire has the upgraded Yanmar (54 HP) and a Lewmar bow thruster which is helpful in those tight spots.
I can't speak for which year is better than the other, I don't know that there would be any difference from year to year on the DS, but again I am no expert in fact far from it.
Roller furling main can be tricky but if one follows the recommendations we have yet to have a problem with it and it sure makes getting underway a breeze.
I had a preference to have the (2) cabin layout as opposed to the (3) as it is just the wife and I on the boat.
