Does anyone know the pros and cons for the HUNTER 41 and CATALINA 41 aft? Considering both. Thanks. You could email me at alr22641@aol.com. Never owned a Catalina, but just sold a 37.5 Hunter and extremely happy with it! Thanks!

greetings from far, far away. before i bought my catalina 30 i did lots research and spoke to many owners - never found a sorry one, and that now includes me. we just overnighted at knickerbocker and ate, wonderfully, at shish-kebab. even better, we ate at a place in oyster bay called angelina's that was truly superb, and i lived in italy for a long time and am a serous cook.

Cat. v. Hunt.

The Catalina is a mast-head sloop; the rig derives most of its power from an overlapping genoa, which must be cranked in every tack. The modern Hunter is a fractional rig, with a larger, full battened main and small, non-overlapping jib, a rig which derives most of its power from the main. If it were me, all other things being equal, I'd go with the Hunter.

Both Pretty much the same

Catalina has been building a slightly better boat in the passed BUT the newer Hunter look like they a getting slightly ahead. I don't like the Hunter B&R mast rig and the addition height required because of the fraction right , but that is me! I do like Hunter layout inside the boat and the fact that all seacocks are easy to access in one spot in the builge. I also like the hardware better on the new Hunters. Glad they got away from cabin top winches and they tie the chainplates into the hull now, not just the deck. If I had it to do over I'd spend the money and get an IP or Tartan, maybe a Sabre, to bad I can't afford one.

now that i remember, i sailed on a hunter and really disliked the traveler on the arch and out of sight. if your hunter has this feature, i suggest you spend some time using it. this traveler rig is highly unusual.
