Hunter 380 Punta Gotda
Reviving an old topic that had no solutions at the time it was posted. I was wondering if anyone has removed, replaced or repaired the poly waste tank on a 2001 Hunter 380? Removal looks to be nearly impossible, without cutting it up. There are companies who will make a replacement tank, but that does no good if it won’t fit back into the same location. Is there any way to repair a leak in the bottom by internal coating? Maybe it’s time to switch to a composting toilet. Any advice would be appreciated.

Don't even THINK of trying to repair a split in the bottom of a PE tank!

Duraweld (which may have been known as DuraCast when your tank was made) was Hunter's OEM water and waste tank supplier then...unfortunately they no longer offer one-off tanks, even as replacements.

I suggest you try Ronco Plastics...they make TOP quality thick-walled (50% thicker than most other mfrs) water and waste tanks for a very reasonable price and have more than 400 shapes and sizes, over 100 of which are non-rectangular, and they install fittings--including diptubes--in the sizes and locations specified by the customer when they make the tank. They've made water and waste tanks for Catalina for decades, so there's a good chance they'll have a replacement tank that'll also fit your Hunter.

Start by checking their catalog Ronco Plastics marine Tanks and drawings Ronco Plastics tank drawings Somewhere among their 400+ tank drawings is one that may not be identical, but will fit the space.

I’ve been in touch with Gareth Dura at Dura Weld. He said he could make the tank from original drawings which are available. He quoted a price that wasn’t outrageous. Although if you can’t get the original tank out without cutting it up, you can’t get the new one in. So you would have to modify the original shape in order to reinstall it. I’m curious what kind of solution tmartin1765, who posted this same question back in March 2020, came up with.

I know it's been said a thousand times before here on SBO but ...............

:worthless:.

Removal looks to be nearly impossible,
What you think of as near impossible may be a piece of cake to someone here who has experience with exactly the same thing.

If you're at all serious about solving this problem, post numerous pics from every angle. If not, let's just forget it and move on.

You sailed an Endeavour for 20 years, and are now discovering that Hunter built their boats differently than Endeavour Yacht Corp. Compound the issue with owners who modified their boat.

Pictures may help.

we have a 2008 36, pretty close in design of the stern. waste tank was installed before deck went on, not possible to remove thru existing hatches. We passed on the idea of surgery to the bulkhead in aft cabin to remove, and have found a solution to our leak at the macerator "out" fitting, which is cracked - Google Uniseals. Uniseal® Pipe-to-Tank Seal Black 3

Thanks for the info. I am trying to get an inspection camera to view the bottom of that fitting, and back side of the tank before disassembling.

here is what we were faced with - picture taken down through the starboard stern locker. Haven't completed, but removed macerator and associated lines, cut the fitting off flush with tank, drilled out the hole to 3". Uniseal will go around a short length of PVC pipe with a cap on it. properly installed should apparently stand up to 65 PSI, which is far more than it will get.
