Am considering a 380 or 386 as a full time boat. LIke the 420 Center Cockpit, but I think its out of my price range. Is there really any difference between a 380 and 386. Any comments or advice? Thanks for you help

Rod, I have a 1999 Hunter 380 which is a boat that I am in love with. I have had eight other boats, different brands, models, types including three previous Hunters. I don't believe there were many changes between the 380 and the 386, both boats used the hull of the 37.6. In 2000 they went from the fibreglass arch to the stainless. I like the fibreglass better but it is a personal thing with people. The 380 is a beautiful boat to sail--I just got back from a 4 day trip with heavy fog, rain, cold winds and some night sailing by myself. I've done four trips this year by myself and I'm in my seventies. My wife and I cruise much of the summer with two cats and have a great time. Save yourself some money and buy a used 376. The changes to me are mostly cosmetic among the 376/380/385. I have a 96 376 and it's super. The savings are dramatic and most boats are new even when old as they're so seldom used. Buy one from a fresh water source as well. John

I bought a barely used 1998 H376 3 yrs ago that had all the trimmings bought & paid for by the previous owner. Probably saved $50k over a new boat. Only thing I wish I had is the stainless arch for a very easy traveler adjustments when short-handed. Other than that the boat is great, so dont limit your choice to the 380/386. Bob.
