I am curious, the 376/386 vintage Hunters don't use an open anchor rode bin but a hawse pipe which connects to a bin under the vberth. Does this area drain into a bilge area in these boats. What experience have owners had with odours (sorry I am from Canada, that's how we spell it) from the anchor chain bin or bilge from sea water and crud that comes in on the chain? Looks like a wash down spray setup would be useful.

Thanks for the feedback. After 3 Catalinas over the past 30 years we have widened our search for our next boat to include Hunters in the 37/38 ft range and I have been pleasantly surprised, maybe we will end up coming over to the dark side.....

Anchor Rode Stowage

Hi Tomfoolery,
My H376 did not stow its anchor line or chain properly as it left the electric windlass. Also I have fitted 'Up' and 'Down' buttons at the helm so there is nobody up forward to help it down the pipe.
The problem was that it was piped into the vee of the bow moulding and would just slide down a bit and then pile up, eventually jamming the pipe.
I fitted a short length of plumbing waste pipe to lead both rope and then chain into the middle of the chain locker and all my problems went away.
You will see from my 2002 photo that my tube is quite a significant item in the forepeak but, in fact, it doesn't affect the sleepers in any way.

I have done the same modification as Donalex on my H376, which BTW saved my marriage. It has worked great and a have no odors. I use 150' chain + 150' nylon rode.

Hunter 22 ten mile tennessee
I have a 376 that has always been on a fresh water lake in Tennessee (and is for sale now for $64,999.) Anyway, in fresh water I've never had a problem with odour :). The 376 boats had a problem with the anchor rode, however. The hole where the rode entered the anchor well was about 6" too far forward. This caused the rope rode to nest against the inner part of the bow. I was able with Hunter's help to simply add 100' of chain rode which solved the problem One reason Hunter went from 37.6' to 38' was to solve this annoying problem. Other than that the windless works perfectly. Let me know if I can help further (or if you want to buy my boat!) 865-384-5962 Knoxville, TN All the best,
John
