Hi guys: I am upgrading several parts of my 1990 Hunter 37 which I recently purchased. 1). Dome lights, would you replace them with the new mr led ones? low energy comsumption..etc? any suggestions on dome lights? 2). the mainsheet halyard (line only) is damaged and need to be replaced as well as the mainsheet cleat located at near the gooseneck which is not operating. Where to find this items? can the cleat be replaced or has to be upgraded to a different version. 3). what to use to fix the polyetilene holding tank (new) the the fiberglass bottom? Epoxy puty? 4). Need to be hoisted up to the top of the mast to replace the vhf antenna, install a new 360 Deg 2NM hella light, install a navman W3100 wind tranducer and wire it down. I purchased the Professional Bosun's Chair from west marine...how to configure it to be hoisted? Thanks!!!

LEDs are not a cost effective option if you can control the turning off of the lights. I found that my family can't seem to remember to turn off the light and that was adding up to ~25 AH each night. When I made the effort to "take it upon myself" to turn off the lights AH usage dropped off significantly to 5. So if you have the battery bank-charging capability incandescent is the way to go from a $ stand point. If you need lots of light then LEDs begin to look attractive. It is really a how much you can stand to pay vs AH saved question. If you go the LED route make sure you get a totally (make it totally) waterproof because the LED elements will outlast the boat and rust is the major reason for failure. If the halyard and cleat are damaged then you should seriously consider that the sheave at the mast head may be damaged also. If you have an isomat mast then www.rigrite.com will have exactly what you need. Poly tanks can be heat sealed for small holes. Heat up a metal rod and use it to melt the surrounding poly to seal the hole/crack. there are also poly tank sealer kits that come with a poly rod that you can use like a welding rod. Going aloft is best done as a team. Strap yourself onto the halyard and have your helper winch you up. Since your halyard is damaged fix that first of course. Make sure your helper understands their responsibilities as you life is in there hands. Don't configure your setup so that the helper is at the mast when winching as should you drop something you could seriously hurt them.
