We are seriously thinking of trading in our 30 ft 1985 Catalina Tall Rig for a new Hunter 356. Saw one at Newport and really liked it. Had a test sail with 25 to 30 knot winds and 4 ft seas. With the in mast reefing the boat was easy to trim out and we really felt very comfortable. Of course the guy who was doing the demo for the marina was an ASA Instructor who really knew what he was doing. Planning on taking another test sail this weekend in more standard winds and seas.(We Hope) We sail primarily on weekends in the Mystic Ct area. We are more recreational sailors and do not race. Would appreciate hearing from current owners good and bad before we invest some significant dollars. Thanks

Check my post in Big Boats - Hunter

Just brought my H356 home last weekend. See the title Adventures of Java. This is my first BIG boat and am loving it. It is a great boat to have. Jim S/V Java

H356

go for it! she's a great boat, fast, seaworthy, and very forgiving to sail. We launched in the spring (hull #98)and have had a really great summer. We sail north of Boston up to Maine, and the only thing we might have considered doing differently would be adding ac (for those hot nights on the dock)

Yup.

We do the same kind of sailing that you do. The 356 is terrific. Better get one.
