Looking for some help in winterizing our 2002 Hunter 356. Not my first winter, but first one with this boat. Was this boat made only for tropical weather, or how are you supposed to get to the strainer which is situated squarely underneath two pieces of the flooring? If I could stand on my head, it might be possible, however, I am a 65 year old guy with a new knee.

What strainer are you talking about? There is an engine raw water strainer by the thru hulls at the base of the companionway - I use a strap wrench to loosen and then remove by hand, and a freshwater strainer under the galley sink. If you have A/C, there's a raw water strainer for that, too - location may vary depending on installation.

Winterizing

Your best option is to install nylon T's in your lines and get a 5 gallon bucket and install a valve and hose out of the bucket with a fitting that mates with the T fitting. It makes winterizing a snap and you can do it pretty fast with little mess. Use a rotating fitting for the hose to bucket so the vinyl hose doesn't twist when you screw it on the T.

By the way, I'm 66 and know what you mean! This is the easy way.

Thanks guys. Jerry, I guess in your area you are a pro at winterizing. This boat came from the gulf and I imagine has never been winterized. Tonight, we went to Lowe's and picked up the hardware to apply the "T's" to the inboard and also the AC lines as well. If this goes well, we will do the same for the generator for next year since we managed to get it done this weekend.
Thanks again

I've done this for awhile! This year I'm in Punta Gorda, FL until the end ofFebruary when we will go back north to Kentucky Lake. We have traveled 1260 miles since early October and just arrived in fisherman's Village on December 6. Back in TN now but will be back and forth for next two months. Don't have to winterized his year!
