I did not get any reply's to my post last week asking if anyone has installed the engine ventillation system. Does that mean that the other 356 owners have the automatic engine shutdown upon activation of the Halon system? The way to tell is to check whether or not the Sea Fire module at the engine control panel has just a red LED or does it have a red and green LED with an override switch? Mine has just the Red LED and speaking with Sea Fire the system will not shut down upon actuation. Am I the only one with this configuration? Thanks Marc

356 fire suppression

Marc, we have the engine ventilation installed (retrofit actually) and the guy who did it did a great job, but I am not too happy with the materials (the tube is easy to tear). I like the idea that the engine is getting cooler air than the air in the engine compartment, and I think that the noise level in the salon is lower with the pick up aft. We have the same fire suppression indicator that you do (red light only) and I have not gotten the courage to push the test button yet. I have weighed the bottle and checked the pressure. If I do get the guts to push it, I'll let you know what happens. Got any idea what kind of mess it makes or how much it costs to refill the bottle? Al

Test Button

Al, I don't think that the test button discharges the system. If I remember correctly the test button just sets off the alarm. I think we proved that last year. In any event the system shold not discharge for a test. Getting the boat ready to launch this weekend and I will check again Marc

Mine has the single Red as well...

Marc, I didn't respond earlier because I hadn't been to the boat. I checked, and it is the same as yours...one red button. I haven't put in the vent system, but it is on the list todo prior to launch. Now the test is also added to the list. Hull #312 Steve

Engine Ventillation

My 356 (hull 147) does not have the fire supression system nor the engine box ventillation. Obviously Hunter must think that it is necessary and added it. I have thought about adding the fire suppression system and most likely will do so in the near future. I am curious about the ventillation set up. It appears, based on the postings, that Hunter provided it. Please let me know if that is the case and how it is setup. Thanks, Bob sv Kathryn, Stamford, Ct

Suppression System

Bob Hunter sent out a notice last year via boat serial number describing the system and asking if you wanted to install it. The purpose of it is to draw air into the engine intake from the aft compartment of the boat. In doing so if the suppression system is energized the engine would not suck in the Halon leaving the Halon to suppress the fire. Hunter provided all the parts the owner provides the labor. If you do not have the suppression system you do not need to modify your air intake to the engine. The system is an adaptor that goes on the existing air intake nozzle of the engine and about 10 feet of 3 inch flex ducting. The duct runs parallel to the shaft toward the aft end of the boat. You have to drill two 3 1/4 inch holes to accomodate the duct. I am going to install it on my boat in the next few weeks. By the way, do you sail in the Stamford are? We live in Westport boat keep our boat up in Noank. Marc
