Bob,Here is a close up showing the size....
Nick,I am sure Hunter doesn't ship sailboats with a prop on it and how
I know is it's the dealer who decides what prop goes on the boat.
they sell a boat they ask the buyer what prop they want or when they
get a boat delivered they decide what prop to use.
When my boat was new they talked me out of a folding prop and when ever I would motor is was very hard to get my boat speed and even when the water was like glass top boat speed was still hard to do and if I push max RPM's I would get black smoke and after them telling me the prop was OK I decided
to change to a Flex O fold prop and now 7.5 no problem and sailing has even improved.
I was very happy with my dealer and they did go the extra mile for me in everything except maybe screwed up with the prop.
So what I am saying is know one prop is a standard factory prop, many things on a boat is not always from the factory like batteries don't come with a boat on most sailboats until at the dealer and they decide what to use.
I know this from when I ordered my 2007 H-36 and the dealer would say we can install the gen or other things and they do install most options but wires and some hardware is done at factory.
I check back than what other 356 boats had for a prop and gave that info to
the prop people, and I do have my old prop and if you want info from that I can get it.
Nick
I have never used the Martec prop. on our boat.Bob,
How much speed to you get with this prop?
Andrew
Thank you Bob,I have never used the Martec prop. on our boat.
The Autostream prop was on our boat when we bought it.
With the Autostream we generally cruise about 6 kts at 3000 RPMs. The feathering prop makes a big difference sailing and stopping or backing. Autostream told me their props are bit less efficient motoring straight ahead compared to a fixed prop because the blades can not be cupped.
Bob
Nick,Sorry I really don't know for sure and will look for info
that I keep on boat.
Nick
Chuck, some 356s came with a 16x12 3 blade - there are 2 different transmission gear ratios that were used. We changed to a 3 blade autoprop but I can't give you the tip clearance - we changed 11 years ago - but I know at the time that plus the 3 props I have in my notes all were good .
Stock Props:
16x13 2 blade
15x13 or 16x12 3 blade
hope this helps
Bob,Andrew, I found this note on my computer concerning prop size for a 356. I don't know where it came from for sure. I believe it came from the manufacturer of our Autostream prop in Australia.
"The factory specs (via email to me)call for a 15x13 3-blade prop for the 356. Performance should be 6.8 knots at 2600 to 2800 rpm and 7 knots at 3000 rpm (assume flat water and clean bottom). If you have a Campbell Sailor 3-blade prop on a 356 what is the size and performance (speed/rpms).
Bob
Thank you Nick.I think my Flex O Fold was 15X13 and think that was what I and flex O Fold
agreed on the 15X13 and the tip measurement is 7 1/2 from the inside
edge of the shaft hole to tip of my old prop, but my old prop pitch was not correct for my H-36 same boat as 356.
But should give some idea what OK.
Nick
