Nice boat, I really l;ike the interior layout of these boats. Don't know any particulars but look in the boat info section above for some basic information from folks who own the boat.

Couple of points:

Check the emergency steering tiller. Actually fit it to the rudder head. Ours had been through delivery and a previous survey before we found out that someone had confused outside with inside diameter. The tiller sat on top of the rudder head and did not slide inside it. Useless. Fixed now.

If it is the wing keel version, you might want to look at the length of the rudder if you sail in areas of shoaling water. I don’t mind grounding gently on the keel but I would hate to ground on the rudder first with any sort of speed. The rudder is the same length for the fin keel and wing keel. I had six inches cut from the rudder after talking with the rudder manufacturer who said that it should not be a problem. It hasn’t. I also installed a drain in the bottom of the rudder at the same time.

There were several variations in the interior layout before the firmed up for the 35.5. If it important to you, check the fit of the saloon table. Make sure that it can fit the settee for additional bunk space.

Does it have the Profurl 810? I changed to a system that would reef and moved the roller above the deck while going to a larger Genoa.

BTW: I am 6’5” and the Admiral is 6’ and we love the headroom.

Love the boat. It is competitive. We cruise and race on Lake Ontario.
Hope that this helps.

Owned a very similer '190 35.5 for 10 years and really enjoyed it. Sailed the boat to the Keys and back and spent a lot of cruising time in the Northeast from Newport to the Chesapeake Bay. I think the legend series has the nicest lines of the Hunters. The boat has some unusual handling characteristics because of the huge main and fractional jib. The fractional rig takes some getting use to but it is convenient and easy to work and handle.

(My opinion) Pros: Good layout, handsome interior, great head/shower space, roomy for its size, spacious aft cabin, terrific headroom, good sailing boat & easy to single hand - IF SET UP PROPERLY! Can fly downwind and will surf. Extremely responsive to helm with very short turning radius. Backs well under power. Nice galley with good drawer storage. Interior wood very nicely done. Perforated toe-rail!! (every boat should be equipped with this feature as far as I'm concerned).

CONS: Light; needs to reef early. Water slaps big time against the transom when tied up with wind aft. (Choose your slip assignment with this in mind. It would drive me bonkers.) Long boom makes stowing the main a chore. There should be a third dutchman line to prevent the aft end of the sail from spilling into the cockpit. If equipped with a small 110 or lapper jib will require a barber hauler for optimum performance to windward. There is an athwart ship grid strut that supports the mast that sticks up a few inches above the floor. This is the reason that the boat has such good head room. I did not find it to be a problem but others might. Water tank in the bow effects boat trim at varing levels of full/empty. Holding Tank: Hunter installed metal tanks that have an effective life span of about 8 - 10 years before the seams start to go. If you smell head odor in the aft cabin it is probably due to this tank. I replaced mine with a plastic tank of a larger 30 gal size. If the jib furling lines come up through the foredeck it can be an area susceptible to water intrusion in the laminate. Have it checked by your surveyor. I would recommend replacing the ProFurl jib furling system.

Would I buy it again? Absolutely. Good Luck.

John:

One of the major areas of concern is the below deck furler. There were problems with the foredeck delaminating due to water entering the core thru the hole where the furling line exits the anchor locker.

Black water holding tank too, but that is not a big deal and it may have already been replaced.

They can be a little tender but not a problem if you reef early if the wind picks up.

A friend has one and it is a nice boat.

turns out this one doesnt have any electronics that work sails worn out..headliner loose cabin sole in need of replacing needs bottom job, forehatch leaking,a couple of ports leaking, cushions worn bad, some dock rash, none of the holding tanks have been replaced , anchor locker full of water9which I unstopped) trans clunkes after in gear...but engine cranks and could be made into a beautiful boat...

i will have to take some, but the deck/stacked decks of tuner, eualizer etc, is in the electrical panel, same one used by hunter on most of the hunters of that era.
