The head on my 1992 H35.5 died this weekend. I am looking for a quick change over to make the best of the remaining season. Any recommendations on a replacement model. I want an easy replacement if possible. Can I find an exact match and just drop it in - any advice graetly appreciated. Thanks Don

If all you want is something to finish the season

Buy a portapotty. But since it only takes an hour or two to swap out a toilet for any toilet, whether it's an identical replacement or not, why not go with a good toilet that'll not only get you through the rest of the season, but the next 20 seasons too? However, you neglected to mention the make/model/age of your toilet...whether it's manual or electric... or what kind of failure leads you to believe it's DOA--which it may be, or maybe not...it may just need a simple repair. Or, it may not be original. So...what IS your toilet? What's wrong with it?

PHII

Don: Just install a PHII. Your head is large enough to make for a quick and easy install. The worst part is sometimes the raw water intake. Do it right now and you will be better off for the long run too.

More Details

Peggy, The toilet is a manual (I beleive Par) and I have done a rebuild previously. The plastic pump housing is cracked so it leaks when flushed and the threading on the pump is stripped so the plunger does not stay attached - I think it's done. The sea water intake is at the back and it is a fairly tight fit. The pump is a vertical motion versus the handle on the Raritan which I think would obstruct the door. It is the original head and I will take some more measurements tonight. Thanks Don

You're right...it's definitely time for a new toilet

The PH II comes in two versions--full size, and the PHC which is the same pump, but on a compact base to fit in a tighter space. Raritan is about to start offering the PHC with a shorter pump handle, which should also help. Meanwhile, if it obstructs the head door when down, there's no reason why it has be down between uses...leave it up so it's out of the way. Whatever it takes to make it work is definitely worth the effort! This retailer has the best prices: http://www.boatfix.com/elec/raracc.asp?parttype=psl

Handle will NOT...

obstruct the door. Get the "tall boy" model, it's alot more like the comfort of home. It's a great fit and as Steve said, the worst part will be piecing together the raw water intake which is on the front. Just splice in some longer hose with a coupler and 2-90s. Use heat to help get the old hoses off, but not too much heat!
