It looks like a great addition to your boat. How much weight do you think it will hold and will it be a lifetime component or do you expect failure on the seam to the hull over time? How involved is the work to put it on the boat?
I would like to have one of these for my boat. Please post information about how to get one.

I have the mold for the transom. It will be glassed on when finished, It's pretty involved installing, and will be a lifetime addition to the boat. I don't expect any problems after it's glassed in, and I will keep posting pics.

No, I drove to Solomans Island MD. and picked it up from a guy named Tom Manning jr, His dad built the mold and made several out of it, and it had been sitting quite some time when I bought it.

Suger scoop

The suger scoop looks good Tim I would still like to get one. It looks alot simpler to install than I was picturing from talking to you. I cant wait to here what a differance it makes in performance. keep us up to date

Been wondering where you and Cabo Wabo got to. Now we know!

Did you have to beef up the transom much? What did you use for the attach points? Wood (teak) or is it metal it's hard to tell from the pictures.
Looks great can't wait for more pictures and info.

It looks as though you'll have about a foot of ledge you can stand or sit on, like a swim platform. It does seem that the aft edge will be high out of the water, so getting on the platform from the water will be difficult without a ladder.
I wonder what is your planned use for the extension? I am sure you went to this work for more than just a different look.
The heeled waterline might be extended, reduce weather-helm, and give a smoother ride.
What were the experiences of those others who had this done?

I'm getting closer, I'll fair it in then glass it, then gelcoat it. They say that the designer of it "Tom Manning" had Hunter supposedly contacted Tom about it when they were designing their sugar scoop transom. It's supposed to make a little more speed in higher winds and reduce weatherhelm. I'm going to take the upper ladder and cut and modify so it can lay on the deck and use it for a handle when getting out and will have a square on the platform when it's laid down so my generator can sit in it, and strap it down. Then when it's not in use, it will lay up against the hull.

I bonded the scoop to the hull with Marinetex and 5/16 bolts. Structurally it will be stronger at the seam there than just about anywhere on the boat.

Don, I did use Teak for the attachment points, then glassed the flange to the scoop and the teak, then filled the gap with west systems epoxy and 404 adhesive additive. I then pulled the screws out that I used to line it up. There is a much simpler way to install the scoop. Take 5/8 to 3/4 inch thick starboard and follow the contour of the hull with it having room for the scoop to but up to the hull, then glass over it. You would still bolt on the topside of the transom then you could glass over that part also. My idea when we built the flange was to try and produce a bolt on version to sell that could bolt right on. But it's too difficult to produce. I'm fixing to talk to a local fiberglass company and see what they would charge to pull about 5 to 10 platforms out of the mold.

Looks good. I hope that it works as you think. I would like to hear about the performance you experience and see the finished job. What hull member is there to use as an anchoring point for your bolts to mate the scoop with the hull?

Splax, I'll take some pics of where I bolted it from the inside and you can see how it's attached/

I'll try and have a price quote next week on it. I'm gonna have to take the mold to them and let them look at it.

Still have some more work to do on it, and I'm getting a hold of another glass guy closer to the house. The last glass guy won't give any kind of ideas on the price of producing another one.
