Hunter 340 Skylight Fwd of Mast Leak

Hi,

I have a recurring leak that is being generated from the large window/skylight forward of my mast. This is about a 1/2 inch thick piece of glass, with a 1/2 inch bed of rubberized caulk.

I tested the leak, made a temporary repair to confirm its source now I need to fix it properly.

Who has done this with success before and what/how did you do it?

.......................... as far as removal, cleaning, material selection, installation, etc. I've been preparing to replace the large front fixed port this winter and have collected a number of good tips under the search menu on this site. Look for fixed ports, window replacement, windows. etc.

I've already replaced the lenses in all of the opening ports and found that a hobby woodworking shop is a must for working with acrylic.

Can you comment on waht was the pathway for the leak. I have a tiny leak from one the skylights and I traced it to one of the screws.

I just ran across this post and see that there is no direct answer to your question. What did you end up using to repair your leak? Are you happy with the outcome so far?

Normally you should not be using screw to hold these skylights in place. If you use the correct product they will stay in place without any mechanical fasteners. The original fasteners were used while the caulking is curing. Then the fastener is removed and the hole is filled with caulk.

Hunter had used Dow795 in the past.

I had the same issue on my HV'36. I used an exacto knife and some other instruments to remove the old caulk around the light. Then I used some alcohol to clean out the groove. Tape up around the area and recaulked.
