Hi we are relatively new to sailing and have recently bought a 2000 Hunter Legend 340. We are having difficulties working out the function of the two stop cocks in the floor of the aft most starboard locker. The most aft one and the larger bore of the two is labelled waste and the other comes from the output of the macerator. The specific reason we are looking at these is that the macerator is tripping out and we are trying to fault find and resolve. Thanks in advance.

Someone may offer a better explanation, but assuming the smaller seacock labeled macerator is open when running it, the fact that you have a larger output labeled waste tells me you have a direct overboard discharge option. There should be a three-way diverter valve somewhere that directs the toilet outflow to the holding tank or overboard. That's just an FYI; it should not affect the macerator action, again assuming the seacock is open. So, see that your macerator is turning; there will be the shaft sticking out of the top. It may have a grove in it for a screwdriver to manually turn it to free it if it is stuck. The other possibility is that the vent to the holding tank is blocked, causing the macerator to pump against a vacuum. Blast it with a hose to try to free up any blockage. I hope you get better suggestions. Good luck!

On my '99 H340, the two seacocks just aft of the sink are 1} sink drain and 2} inlet for head sea water for flushing. No labels but easy to trace the hoses. The macerator is in the starboard swim platform locker and pumps to a seacock about 2 feet towards boat centerline in the same area.

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your new sailboat!!

Might post a photo of the sea cocks and make a drawing of the hose and where they are attached. From page your manual Hunter_340_68030594.pdf (sailboatowners.com). I see 1 thru hull for waste discharge, for use when legal to discharge, and a second one for raw water to the toilet. There should be another for vanity sink drain.

While not unusual on small boats to locate thru hulls in nearby locations, it is important for the health of the crew, that you are not pumping sewage overboard at the same time you are drawing water in to supply internal water use.

Follow the hoses and identify the connections. Good flashlights are helpful.

While it is helpful to ask other owners what they have, it is not a replacement for you identifying your own boats infrastructure. Previous owners may have altered the thru hulls from the original install or purpose.

Hi @Andy&Anne and welcome to the site

One of the biggest problems we face on this site is the posting of complex questions without pictures and I'm afraid your problem falls right into the middle of that category.

@Ed Caldwell has described his own '99 H340 which sounds quite different from your 2000 H340. They should be very similar but it seems they're not. This is the reason we ask for pictures. The H340 drawing from @sail sfbay is identical to my '99 H310 but your description is again different from those. @jssailem 's remarks also emphasize the need for photos of YOUR piping system on YOUR boat.

Give us some help with a few pictures and we'll be able to tell you exactly what you're dealing with and how to test and repair it. All at no $ $ $.
