Sailing Performance / Comfort VS Speed ?

One rather simple yardstick would be to go on line to your local racing association and check out PHRF numbers assigned to the two boats. That said, unfortunately there also don't seem to be a lot of Hunters out there racing. Therefore, look at the typical parameters of theoretical sailing speed: Which is heavier? Which has the longer waterline length? Which has the better sail area to displacement ratio. Check out the 'numbers' for both boats on other portions of this site. Asking individual owners might typically get you an "I love my Boat and it performs great" answer from both, when one could have roller furling vs the other's racing sails or a three blade fixed prop vs folding or feathering props.

320 VS 356

I had a 320 prior to my 356. The 320 design is comparable to the 340. The 356 outperforms the the 320/340 hands down. The 320 would not move in 3-4 knots of wind, but the 356 sails well in 2-3. I believe the difference is in Glenn Henderson's design (the 356 was his second boat for Hunter). Both boats were equiped the same (folding prop, clean bottoms, 155% head sail, and same crew). Get the 356 if you are looking for the boat to perform. No question in my mind. Steve

Steve!...more info on the 155% head sail...

Why did you put it on? Who made it? How much speed difference did it make? Did you have a roller furling main? If so, how did it affect the main (many have reported a main sail leech flutter which I believe is caused by the standard issue 110% jib)
