We just purchased a 1984 Hunter. The water heater has been removed and we are wondering what kind buy and where it goes.

The hot water heater is located under the bench seat, at the table in the main cabin. It is right in front of the sink. It is often located near the outside, near the hull. But, there should be room to move it closer to the centerline of the boat, and thus decrease a little of the boats tendency to list to the starboard. You'll still have a fair amount of storage space under the seat.

Seaward Water Heater
Replaced mine this spring; was exact replacement (except this one has a stainless exterior). It's a Seaward 6 gallon; model S700. Heats great on 110V or from the engine. Got it at West Marine for $250.

I had the same problem for the boat I purchased in april 2000. Same model hunter 34 1983, To solved the problem I bought a basic 6 gallons at Home Depot at 100$ 110V. It's perfect for me because I only use the hot water when I am at the marina, so I am on the 110volts system. Sory for my english, I am french.
