h-34 shoal draft -weight added
My shoal draft H-34 boat sailed very well in all directions except close hauled in heavy air. In order to make any headway, sail area needed to be reduced greatly. Drift was also a major problem, like plus 10 degrees, so it was hard to make good headway.Since sailed with the 211-lb wing addition in 15 knots of air, closed hauled, I was able to make 7.8 knots and with only 2 or 3 degrees of drift, all verified by GPS against compass and knot meter. The wing was placed at the center of lateral resistance to eliminate any steering influence. The draft is now 4"9" vs., 4'3".This change has exceeded my expectations. The H34 is a great sailing boat and this made it even better.
