Hunter 34 eyebrow remove/repurpose

I removed the eyebrow from my 1983 H34 - it was mostly shot and as you know not the easiest to keep up. I salvaged what I could for several cabin projects - molding! I had redone galley counter tops and needed some trim for the ice box cover and the trash can storage lid next to it. The eyebrow turned out to be a perfect accent and covered over my rough trimming of the new surface for those covers. As for the cabin top, I cleaned up where the eyebrow had been, gelcoat patched the screw holes and painted an Easypoxy blue stripe and added a red pin stripe - which is what I had done for my boot stipe during my last yard period when I removed the old signature factory pin striping. Very happy with these changes/upgrades in MILKY WAY's continuing 30 anniversary face lift.

Looks very nice! The PO of my 34 removed it and I am planning to do a paint stripe also. Nice to know how good it will look when completed. Thanks for the pictures!

Great job and good timing. Working on teak now and procrastinating the eyebrow. I like your idea better. Thanks.

You're both welcome. Glad to share - over the years I've gotten so many ideas and lots of coaching from fellow H34 owners. Good luck!

Nice job!

I took the deteriorated eyebrows off my H34 a couple of seasons ago and have been contemplating what to use to replace them. Your idea is the best so far!

Dan:

Also consider not to replace them at all ...

Aesthetic preference is important of course. But besides the initial effort, future maintenance is also a factor.

Attached is a picture of my deck/cabin top. I opted for the no eyebrow look for my 1980 Cherubini Hunter when I needed to remove them to restore a badly chalked cabin top with 2-part Interlux Perfection paint. (The FRP layer was actually showing through in places.) Granted the style of my cabin top is dated compared to the H34's sleeker design. My eyebrows extended from the forward-most port all the way back to the cockpit. To my view, the boat has a more open, less cluttered look than with the eyebrows.

Presumably you have already filled and faired your eyebrow mounting holes. To finish, an idea might be to stamp say 1/2" - 3/4" round holes in painters' blue masking tape. Orient over the faired holes and paint with a color that matches your boat's gelcoat. The perfectly round painted "dots" will be hardly noticeable -- and probably only if you make a point to look for them. And the dots will be a lot easier to redo or touch up in the future than for painted stripe along the entire length of the cabin top.

Just an idea to also consider.

Have not finished off the former mounting screw holes due to indecision as to what may be used to replace the teak. Wanted them accessible so didn't need to drill new holes. Was considering the synthetic building material moldings available at the big box DIY's (quarter round or something run across my router table). Striping with a vinyl tape looks more attractive with a lot less work!
