I am looking at two Hunters. A '89 Vision and a '95 336. Anyone have any experence with eather that you could pass on ( not you RB, you talk too much). I am not sure about the freestanding mast. Looks great to me but I would like to hear any coments ya'll may have on that. What about a hull #001?

Personaly

I like the 336 ( I have one) so i have a tainted view ! Both are good boats so you need to make personal choices. The mast on the legend would not bother my as that it has been around a long time. The answer is with you and your sailing needs. One nice thing about the legend is no stays (neither boat has backstays another plus for both). The B

Well, Personally...

.I like the V32 ( I had one for ten years) so I also have a tainted view ! Both are good boats so you need to make personal choices. I loved the simplicity, huge open layout, and quiet in a seaway. Even though I now have a 40.5, I would still say this is the best all-around boat I owned. Hard to go wrong on this. Best of luck either way. Rick D.

Related question:

Since the Vision has been out of production for so long, is there still a source for the unique mast if it ever had to be replaced? Personally, I would call Hunter and find out, plus call whoever they gave as a supplier and talk to them. BTW,are you looking at the Vision 32 for sale at Whitney's? That's a nice looking boat, just few slips down from mine. Enjoy the search!

Vision design is similar to Freedom.

Al: The Vision is a similar design to the Freedom which has been a successful design. I think if you talk to most everyone that has had one of these boats has really liked them. Depending on the sailing condition they can be a fairly fast boat. If you rigged one of these with a Camber Spar self tending jib, it would be like driving a car.

Steve, I wasn't being negative about the boat...

Like I said I'm sure the owners of this design are happy with their boats. She interests me as a sailing vessel and how she handles. The boat in question is very nicely kept but to be honest, I guess I never really liked the looks of the Freedom design either. My hang up, and that and $2.79 will get you a super grande ultra mocha latte coffee type substrance at your local coffee shop!

Get the 336, Vision is SLOW !

Visions doesn't perform well especially going up wind. This can be confirmed by their PHRF handicap rating of 171 in New England. The h336 is rated at 147 or 24 second/mile faster. Many folks who have them like them but personally I wouldn't own one. Anyone that says the Vision sails better is certainly not concerned about speed. Get the 336 and wave to them as you sail by. On The Other Hand Barry,

I'd bet a V32 can sail to its rating a LOT easier;^ For some reason, the latest Hunters seem to be assigned really low ratings out of the mold. Maybe it's 'cause they look so fast.. Rick D.
