Looking for a good idea where to store small outboard motor on Hunter 33. Tried WM rail plate, but looks like stern rails are too rounded for plate to close.

outboard motor rail mounting

I used two of the WM brackets, mounted one on the top rail and one on the bottom rail on my 2000, Hunter 340 and connected them with a one foot by 1" piece of stainless tubing. If your stern rail configuration is similar on the 33 it works great!

outboard moount

i used the standard wood bracket one would buy at a marine store in my case it was an old one from a 32 vision i once owned since it is an old one it split vertically and so it conforms somewhat to the rounded edges of the seat i have used it for my 6hp from bimini to the DR in 2 major crossings one really bad and no problems my mount is made of teak wood i have some issues with my 33 and i thought you and i could share them please respond thanks ron

Here is my solution

I used the following on my 33: (see related link below) My 33 had 1" rails. I had to notch out the stern rail seat in order to make it fit. The notching was an easy job accomplished while on the mooring with nothing more than a coping saw, some sand paper, and a small amount of varnish to seal the ends of the exposed teak slats. I think you will have to unscrew the seat to do this and depending on how your slats are attached you may need to drill and secure with a couple of small stainless screws. Because I have a four stroke outboard for my dinghy that weighs 55lbs I also added a motor hoist from here: http://www.davit.com/remcrane.htm And a sling for the motor from here: http://www.clevel.com/motortote.shtml (the link isn't working right now but it did a few days ago...)
