Hunter 33 Head/shower bilge problems

After "splashing" our boat this week, having a back flow from the aft head discharge drain on our 1980 33'onto the floor of the head. Also having waters from flushing water heater building up in that area of bilges. I am told we should have a separate bilge pump system to accomodate that flow, especially designed if we were to use the shower in the head. Has created moldy residue inside lazarettes that we will have to clean and is a general mess!Any feedback for us to resolve this problem? We have owned boat for 6 years, purchasing from original owner and this is first time we are aware that waters have been building up. Anxious to hear from fellow Hunter owners. I'm surprised.

You haven't looked in that area in the 6 years you have owned the boat? I take my batteries out every winter and take them home to my charger. That makes it easy to access the shower bilge. My 1981 H33 has a bilge pump installed with screws to the bottom of the bilge. It is operated with an on/off switch located in the head. I replaced the white drain hose last year because it was cracked. I have also installed a check-valve to keep the water left in the hose from draining back to the bilge after pumping. You have to remember to pump pink antifreeze in the hose for winterizing.Ken Palmer, S/V Liberty

H33 has a shower sump

You may have the yard winterize your boat so you might not be aware that the shower sump is beneath the batteries. As Ken stated, a seperate bilge pump is located in that sump with a switch in the head area. The shower stall drains to the sump. It may be that the drain hole is plugged up causing the overflow. This sump is totally isolated from the boats main bilge. You can't get water from the water heater draining into that sump. I suggest you remove the batteries and take a peak at what might be lurking below. Then take what ever corrective action may be nessessary. Dave
