Hello, my questiion is for hunter owners 310 or 326. Under my engine there is always stagnant water (coming from the packing nut wich is normal), this water can reach the boat bilge system but flows only in the back off the engine and i get stuck with stagnant water below the engine, I feel unsecure to drill a hole in front of the engine in the liner. Any opinion ? I ll send picture if necessary, thank you.

Don't Do It...

That would put any oil leaked from the engine or fuel system into the boat's regular bilge and would be pumped overboard when the bilge pump ran. The result would be a oil pollution event with you as the liable clean-up party to pay the fine surely to follow.

Better to put an absorbent mat below the engine to catch water/oil and dispose of it properly.

To solve your standing water problem drill a couple drain holes. Then put an aluminum baking pan under the engine to catch any oil or fuel that may come off the engine. I've used this procedure for over 20 years although I have a dripless shaft seal. The pan is about 3 inches high and easily slides under the engine and sits snugly in the space.

Alan...

I never thought of one of those disposable bake pans. Great idea!

Thank you for you advice, i will go for the the aluminum baking pan, great idea. I dont know why hunter made it that way, but i think 2 inches of water is not normal under an engine.

Thx again:)

Alain, there should to 2 holes on each side of the packing gland pan, just behind the engine pan, to drain water into the bildge. My 326 has it. The packing gland pan will not overflow into engine. If you don't have holes there, I guess Hunter forgot to make it. When I got my 326 new, Hunter forgot to cut a hole between the rear sump and the middle one.
