Hunter 31 throttle cable replacement

Hi,

I have a 1984 Hunter 31 & I need to replace the throttle cable. I have the new cable but for the life of me I can't determine how to remove the old cable from the binnacle. It is detached from the lever. I removed the lever in fact to get more room. I even removed the top part where the compass mounts and can't see where the cable is held.

I can route the cable easily enough from there to the motor but I would like to attach the new cable to the old one to fish it through the binnacle itself and into the aft starboard side machine space.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Shawne

I think I found my answer while searching the forums. I searched Merrimann and found there is a manual in the docs section. Anyway the thread I was reading explains that there is a screw on the front side of the binnacle that secures a cable clamp and also the throttle cable. I will try it tomorrow and see if I can get the cable replaced.

All the best!

You got it! The little nut that sticks out aft is the cable clamp. Good luck!

Caution!!!

Do not unscrew the the screw too far. If you do you will lose the clamp!
I used a dremel tool to cut a small slot in which I could insert my finger and allow me to feel how many threads I could unscrew it without losing it. Place the slot ~9/16" above or below the screw.

I was able to replace the cable quite easily after unscrewing the clamp. It works much better now.

Thanks for the responses.
