Three questions for H31 Owners. How is the water supposed to drain from under the engine? How about the bilge area under the grate at the steps. Also on the Yanmar is there a drain plug on the oil pan or must you remove the entire pan to drain the oil? I archived the topic about drilling the main bilge to remove the water under the liner but couldn't find anything on these other 2 areas.ThanksDave

My 31 has a hole drilled in the pan that allows water to drain into the bildge, my brothers 31 does not though you can drill a hole.There is no oil drain plug you have to pump the oil from the dip stick.Hope this helps

Mine doesn't have a drain hole in the engine pan....and I don't want one. If you have an oil leak, the oil will make it under the liner and will take forever to work its way out. If water is getting in there, I'd stop the leak. Unless maybe the shaft seal drips, but mine doesn't. I've got one of these and it works great...

Hole in Engine Sump

Think about it if you have an oil, Fuel or Antifreeze leak do you want that in your main sump? Or worse yet do you want to pump that possible mixture overboard.

You have to pump it out the dipstick tube

You have to run the engine to heat up the oil, then use something like the pump Gary showed in his link to pump the oil out of the dipstick tube...remember to move the tube around in the oil pan to make sure you get as much out as possible from the corners and back of the sump. If you don't have the oil warm, it is almost impossible to get much oil out, so that step is important. You can use a simple drill-driven pump or a small brass pump, all sold at marine stores, in addition to the fancy systems like Gary's link...Some people use a piece of small diameter copper tubing for the part that goes into the dipstick, makes it easier to manuver around in the oil pan.
