Hunter 31 Hull

We are looking to buy a Hunter 31. We noticed some damage to the bottom of the boat. Upon a survey from the broker, we found out that the hull is solid fiberglass and not laminate. Can anyone verify this, that the H31 does have a solid fiberglass core? Also this is going to be a somewhat of a project boat. Any problem areas or other information regarding H31's and related products would be fantastic.Thanks,Andrew M.

Hunter 31 is a great boat

We hauled our 1987 Hunter 31 today after our 4th season on Lake Michigan. We have done a lot of projects on ours. It is a very sturdy, forgiving boat. We have converted all our thru-hulls to ball valves. When they cut the holes the plugs looked like solid fiberglass, definitely no core under companionway stairs, galley sink, head intake, or raw water input.I backed into a steel breakwater today (accidently) and just bounced off with a little crazed gelcoat on the stern.

do you mean...

solid fiberglass laminate without wood coring? Yes, there is no coring below the waterline. But it is laid with fiberglass matting.

Thanks, thats what I wanted to know about the hull. Looks pretty good to buy it! It'll be a project boat for sure. But thats half the fun.

I'd would be careful.

The hull is layed up glass but there is a liner under the cabin sole. I think you can find a project from a H'34 (in the archives) that had damage from the keel hitting something. You could easily invest many thousand of dollars on this project and still have a boat that is not very sale able. If the damage is outside of the grid area, then I would not be too worried.
