I installed the fluxgate compass in the rear berth on the stareboard side I am told it should be on the port side can I cut the wire and reconect it? Its a pain to fish the wire. When I try the auto pilot it works then swings hard port then goes to stand by.By its self. Thanks Creaig

Mine works on Starboard

Installed ST4000+ MKII on inboard side of starboard longitudinal bulkhead very aft, albeit pretty close to centerline, but still starboard. This is on a 27 75-84. This is not an ideal location but I was lazy and it really works pretty well I think. It certainly doesn't respond as you describe. I didn't know the compass was supposed to be on the port side; sure it isn't some other issue? I don't know about the wire cutting issue.

I agree, its something else

Yes, did you calibrate (swing the compass). If it calibrated, you should be ok. I put mine on the starboard side as it is shown in my Hunter 320 manual and it works fine. It sounds to me that you have the motor leads or the rudder sensor lines reversed. Gary
