Under the 'Boat Info' tab at the top of the page you will find specifications, owner reviews, and lots of other information. Here is one example: http://hunter.sailboatowners.com/in...id=23&Itemid=888&brand=Hunter&bmodel=30_74-83 . If you check the H30 under "Owner Modifications" some of the projects might give you an idea where there were problems: http://hunter.sailboatowners.com/index.php?option=com_kb&Itemid=267&cat_id=23&page=model&mn=30_74-83 . Then you wait for some owners to chime in here.

You might find something useful in the attached PDF courtesy of Jim Legere.

Depends. I have a 93 H30T which I believe was built from 87-94. I have had absolutely no problems other than nomal maintenance. PO's had taken very good care of her.

I am thinking he means the early H30 since he posted in the Cherubini forum. We'll have to wait for his next post.

"To Clarify my question when did Hunter stop production of the Hunter 30"

That's still a bit fuzzy for us here, you see technically, they haven't.

Ed S pointed you to the place http://hunter.sailboatowners.com/in...ngine&Itemid=248&task=3&model=24&brand=Hunter on this site that gives boat specs and production time frames for ALL of Hunters various models throughout the company's history. Poke around there and I think you can find just about any "when did they stop building this particular Hunter size and vintage" question is answered. You'll find a plethora of close to 30s as well as two specifically badged as "Hunter 30", the older one ceasing production in '83 and the newer one they stopped making in '94.

The Cherubini Hunter 30 debuted for the 1974 model year as the second model produced by Hunter. The first model was the 25. The last of the Cherubini 30s were made in 1981 or 1982.

The last Cherubini-designed Hunter in production was the 27, the only one which outlived my dad (oddly, because it was his least favorite), which ended in 1984.

Question for you John C II if you revisit:

Do you have any idea what the earliest year (1974) was like in terms of actual numbers of boats compared to the successive growth years of '75, '76 and '77 for Hunter? I never saw or heard anyone discussing a '74 30 so I'm guessing the number of boats they sold must be small in comparison. I've only seen two 1975 Hunter 30's ( in 1976 in the yard where we bought ours)'75s are rarely discussed on forums to the point where some regulars are even surprised at first when they hear tale of the centerboard, '76 30's (like mine) I've seen a little more often but again discussion of the the custom hatches used that year are met with disbelief from owners who are used to the standard equipment Hunter used on the many, many hulls that are still around that were built in 1977 or later when the volume must have really exploded.

FYI that year we bought our boat (winter of '75-'76) my Dad and I (at 15) were doing the shopping and deciding, Small boat shows in CT and RI, driving to dealers and mailing in requests for brochures. Our modest budget and large family immediately took some boats off the table so it was down to the Hunter 30, the Cape Dory 28 and an O'Day (I forget how big the O'day we were considering was). We didn't hear about or see the Hunter until last, when my Dad pretty much was ready to make a move on the Cape Dory. Although he was new to sailing (his navy buddy and him with wives did a bareboat charter in the Grenadines, and the same friend owned a Grampian 26 that was my first overnight capable sailboat experience) he kind of fell for the very traditional topside look and full keel of the Cape Dory. I liked everything about the Hunter 30 though- the clean low flat dog house, the fin keel, the slightly aft raked angle of the transom. Not knowing the trade-offs then, I was even psyched about the ped steering. (Did your dad favor the wheel or the tiller for the 30? Didn't the pre-'76 30s have a tiller?)

Anyway when we actually got on the Hunter 30, my Dad and Mom were sold immediately, my Dad was over 6'3" and he had until that point expected to have to bow his head when in the cabin, and my mom (who would be feeding and arbitrating berth assignments for four under 16 year olds aboard) recognized immediately the versatility of the drop leaf table and pull out settee (thanks for that). I ended up being taller than my Dad, so I have enjoyed the most utility from the the 6'4" cabin headroom and my kids grew up playing cards with their friends (up to 8 at a time) on the table at anchor or when they got bored topside.

J Hunter, have you studied the "Owner Directory", tab at the top? If you Search with just this one keyword in Model, '30 74-83', there are 321 entries on eleven pages. There are a number of '75s and '76s. I did not see even one '74. You are certainly correct about the explosion in 1977.

In the '77-78-79 glory years at Hunter (Marlboro, NJ) Hunter had five production lines running side-by-side: 25, 25, 27, 30, and 33. Every day at 10 AM a whistle blew and one boat was rolled out from each one. One hull for each line came in from the 'glass shop. This amounts to 1250 boats per year. I would say that these 3000 boats or so represent the bulk of Hunter's production prior to the move to Alachua. Prior to about '76 production was much lower. My boat is a H25 from August 1974 and it's only hull 27. This line (25s) started in model year '73. I would say there were maybe 40 boats between '73 and '74. I may be wrong however.

The 30 that debuted in '73 was apparently built at the same speed as the 25 (witness the production figures) but I can't say that prior to '77 the production figures were analogous to the 25's. I do know that the majority of boats were built to dealer forecasts or to floor plans, not to firm orders (Hunter was intent on building a dealer network, not doing as we did at Cherubini and building only to customer orders). Warren L and my dad used to drive around looking at other builders in Florida counting unsold boats for comparison!

I might suggest that owners 'log in' with hull numbers and date codes and we might be able to get some decent data. We don't need every boat, only enough to give us a good picture. I would be happy to store, archive and publish such data if I had it. I already have a photo album of extant 25s and wouldn't mind having such for all of the models.

not to hijack the thread, but I'm curious about the history of the 33C. . . I bought a 1981 last year. . . I've read somewhere here it was your Dad's favorite?
