I'm thinking of moving my traveler to the cabin top, its currently on the bridge deck. Due to the companionway blockage and overall nuisance I'm looking to relocate to the cabin top. I've seen other posts about the mid boom versus the end boom and understand the increased load. On my boat the bale on the boom is forward of the end and it seems pretty close to mid boom now. Does anyone have any advice or have seen it done before? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Will there be enough clearance to double bail the boom and that way distribute the boom load? I envision a single tie to both bails with a block on that line, or, a block draw from each bail down to a double block. Chief

I'm going to have to get a better look at the present set up when I get home(boat). I'll get some pics as well.

Just curious since I have the same setup and have not launched yet, so is the nuisance when at anchor/docked or under sail? I figured it was installed that way for a reason since it's basically end boom sheeting. My boom bail is maybe a foot from the end. Maybe someone that has done this mod can chime in with pros and cons.

It is a pain sailing and at dock. My bale is about 3-4' from the end so moving 3' forward I wouldn't think would dramatically increase the load. But that's why I'm asking if someone might have practical knowledge

You know that you can install as many boom bales along your boom as you wish. The Catalina 30 originally came with end of boom sheeting. I have 4 boom bales know. You can also add as many blocks as you wish to lower the load and tension required to haul it in. Ignore the teak and the mold on the sail in the first photo. It has all been redone, since I bought the boat.

That looks like the ticket. Did you have a formula for the amount of bales or just winging it?
